American soprano Julianne Borg is currently a company member of Landestheater Salzburg, where her roles during the 2009-2010 season included the Countess LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Agathe DER FEISCHÜTZ, the title role in FRAU LUNA by Paul Lincke and Clara THE PASSION OF JONATHAN WADE by Carlyle Floyd. She looks forward to returning to Salzburg to perform Donna Elvira DON GIOVANNI, among other roles, and to debuting with L'Opéra-Théâtre de Limoges, France as Mimi LA BOHÈME.
While still in the United States Ms. Borg debuted as Violetta LA TRAVIATA with the Skylight Opera Theatre in 2008. Tom Strini of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote "Violetta is among the most challenging roles in the repertoire, as it calls for both vocal heft and agile coloratura. Borg has both, along with an unerring feel for the harmonic and emotional pressure points in a phrase. That same season Ms. Borg appeared as Micaela CARMEN with New York City Opera, marking her seventh season with the company. Other roles performed with this house include, Pamina THE MAGIC FLUTE, Musetta LA BOHÈME, Gretel HANSEL AND GRETEL, Beth LITTLE WOMEN, Serpetta LA FINTA GIARDINIERA, Ygraine ARIANE ET BARBE-BLEUE, and Cleone ERMIONE.
In 2007 Ms. Borg appeared with the New York Philharmonic as Die Magt SANCTA SUSANNA conducted by Riccardo Muti. She returns to the Philharmonic in December 2008 singing the role of 5th Maid ELEKTRA with Lorin Maazel on the podium.
In addition to these recent concert performances, Ms. Borg has extensive oratorio and concert experience, including a performance in Carnegie Hall of Mozart Requiem, Mahler Symphony No. 4 and Symphony No. 2, Bach Magnificat, Handel Messiah, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Poulenc Gloria, Barber Knoxville; Summer of 1915, Orff Carmina Burana and Haydn Die Jahreszeiten, Lord Nelson Mass, and The Creation. She has performed in concert with the Annapolis Symphony, the Tokyo City Orchestra, the Green Bay Symphony, the Abilene Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony. Most recently, Ms. Borg performed the role of Liù TURANDOT in a concert version of the opera with the Westfield Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Borg's career has taken her to the Opera de Nice, France where she performed Flaminia in Haydn's IL MONDO DELLA LUNA and to Japan where she played Mimi in LA BOHÈME with the Tokyo City Opera. In Toulouse France she sang the role of First Niece PETER GRIMES.
Her professional opera career began at the Brooklyn Academy of Music playing the roles of Virtù and Valetto in Monteverdi's L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA. She has performed with the Sarasota Opera as Nanetta in FALSTAFF, Glimmerglass Opera, Orlando Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis where she created the role of Lucy in the premiere of Stephen Paulus's opera THE WOMAN AT OTOWI CROSSING.
Other operatic roles performed include; Rosalinde DIE FLEDERMAUS, The Governess THE TURN OF THE SCREW, Konstanze THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO, Susanna LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Sister Constance DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES. She also sang the role of Nanetta FALSTAFF for Sarasota Opera and, in 2004, the role of Susanna LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with North Arkansas Symphony.
Ms. Borg performs every role from an actor's perspective, which was recognized recently by music critic Julie McHale who wrote, "her voice is so fluid, so flexible, so effortless, so beautifully resonant with every given emotion. She is truly breathtaking as both a singer and an actor."
