Enrico Fissore was born in Bra, Italy and studied at the Turin Conservatory. He won numerous singing prizes and began his career by specialising in baroque opera and moving into the repertoire of Mozart and Rossini. He has been one of the world's leading Italian basses for many years and is in demand by leading conductors and opera houses. He is a highly experienced performer and has excelled in a variety of roles ranging from the basso-buffo repertoire to the darker tragic roles, including Leporello DON GIOVANNI which he sang at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich under Wolfgang Sawallisch and Bartolo LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, conducted by Peter Schneider also in Munich. He was invited by James Levine to appear at the Metropolitan Opera New York in Verdi LA FORZA DEL DESTINO which was subsequently recorded for video with a star-studded cast headed by Leontyne Price. He was later invited back to the Met for performances of L'ELISIR D'AMORE.

For the San Francisco Opera he sang Leporello in a new production conducted by Myung Whun Chung. At the Salzburg Festival he appeared in LA SERVA PADRONA conducted by Leopold Hager and at Glyndebourne Festival sang Schaunard LA BOHEME under Sir John Pritchard. Other festival appearances have included Verdi UN GIORNO DI REGNO at Bregenz Festival, Auber FRA DIAVOLO and Paisello IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at Wexford Festival.
Among the roles he has performed at La Scala Milan are Dulcamara L'ELISIR D'AMORE conducted by Giuseppe Patane and Slook IL CAMBIALE DI MATRIMONIO. He has appeared at the Vienna Staatsoper in L'ELISIR D'AMORE, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and LA FORZA DEL DESTINO and alongside Cecilia Bartoli in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at the Liceu in Barcelona. He has worked many times with the Rossini specialist conductor Alberto Zedda in a number of rare operas by Rossini including LA CAMBIALE DI MATRIMONIO, L'INGANNO FELICE, LA SCALA DI SETA and L'OCCASIONE FA IL LADRO.
He has appeared on the concert platform with the Cleveland Symphony under Christoph von Dohnanyi in Stravinsky Renard and in numerous concert performances including Bianca Fernando by Bellini, Le Rossignol by Stravinsky and Cherubini Ali Baba, which were recorded and televised by the RAI. He appears on the prize-winning Philips recording of IL TURCO IN ITALIA conducted by Sir Neville Marriner with The Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Decca's IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA with Bartoli and Nucci and on their recent release of Puccini IL TRITTICO conducted by Bruno Bartoletti. He also took part in LA RONDINE and TOSCA for EMI conducted by Antonio Pappano.
In recent years he has appeared at St. Gallen as Don Alfonso COSI FAN TUTTE; Dr. Bartolo IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA with Florida Grand Opera; Giampietro Callabrese in Provenzale LA STELLIDAURA VENDICATA in Liège; Dr. Bartolo LE NOZZE DI FIGARO at Glyndebourne and Leporello DON GIOVANNI with Portland Opera. He recorded Puccini IL TRITTICO for EMI and then returned to Théâtre de la Monnaie for further performances of the same opera. He has appeared as Sacristan TOSCA at the Netherlands Opera conducted by Riccardo Chailly and at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels conducted by Antonio Pappano. He made his debut with Minnesota Opera as Dr. Bartolo IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA and has returned to the Bayerische Rundfunk for LA BOHEME and to Opera Montpellier for LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. Last season he appeared as Sacristan TOSCA and Ser Amantio de Nicolao GIANNI SCHICCHI for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Future plans include Ser Amantio de Nicolao GIANNI SCHICCHI at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as well as making his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Sacristan TOSCA.
