After studying at the Royal Academy of Music and National Opera Studio in London, French bass Nicolas Cavallier went on to make his Glyndebourne Festival debut as Sarastro DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, followed by Don Fernando FIDELIO for Glyndebourne Touring Opera. His debut with Welsh National Opera was as Zuniga CARMEN, his debut with Scottish Opera was as Jacopo Loredano I DUE FOSCARI, both at the Edinburgh International Festival and on tour, and his debut role with Les Arts Florissants was Phorbas ALCIONE in Paris, Amsterdam and Bologna.

He has appeared as Masetto and Leporello DON GIOVANNI, Mr Flint BILLY BUDD, Pytheas SAPPHO in Nancy; Publius LA CLEMENZA DI TITO, Don Alfonso COSI FAN TUTTE, Leporello DON GIOVANNI, Rocco FIDELIO, Selim TURCO IN ITALIA, Mephistopheles FAUST, Nick Shadow THE RAKE'S PROGRESS and Mustafa L'ITALIANA IN ALGIERI for Opera de Metz; Sir Walter Raleigh ROBERTO DEVEREUX, First Gravedigger HAMLET, Chamberlain LE ROSSIGNOL and Messenger OEDIPUS REX in Monte-Carlo; Leporello DON GIOVANNI and Dulcamara L'ELISIR D'AMORE in Liege; and Caelenus in Rameau ATYS with Les Arts Florissants. He has also sung Farasmene RADAMISTO, conducted by Nicholas McGegan, at the Gottingen and Halle Handel Festivals, which were subsequently recorded by Harmonia Mundi. He sang various roles in Gluck ALCESTE which was given in concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam for Opera de Wallonie and in Metz, and the role of Don Claudio in concert performances of BEATRICE ET BENEDICT for the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie conducted by Paul Daniel. He appeared as Colline LA BOHEME for Opera Bordeaux, in concert performances of Johann WERTHER with Alfredo Kraus in the title role and Selim TURCO IN ITALIA both at La Monnaie in Brussels. He has appeared as one of the Four Villains LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN, Don Profondo IL VIAGGIO A REIMS, the title roles in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and DON GIOVANNI, Escamillo CARMEN (all for Opera de Wallonie) as well as Bellone LES INDES GALANTES in a new production by Andrei Serban conducted by William Christie for Opera Bastille at the Palais Garnier. He sang the title role of DON PASQUALE at the Opera Comique, took part in a production of MAROUF in Marseilles and sang DON GIOVANNI in Toulon. Most recently, he has appeared in CLEMENZA DI TITO in Paris and as DON GIOVANNI in Avignon.
Nicolas Cavallier's oratorio repertoire encompasses Beethoven Mass in C, Berlioz L'enfance du Christ, Carissimi Jeptha, Haydn Creation, Monteverdi Vespers, Mozart Requiem, Tippett A Child of our Time and Verdi Messa di Requiem. He made his debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Mark Minkowski, as Pluto ORFEO and he made his Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London in works by Rameau and Charpentier with the St James Singers and Baroque Players, conducted by Ivor Bolton. Other concert appearances include Stravinsky Renard with the BBC Singers, the Matrix Ensemble under Robert Ziegler as part of the Stravinsky Festival and a staged prom of SEVEN DEADLY SINS in the BBC Proms.
Future plans include L'ENFANT ET LES SORTILEGES and SEVEN DEADLY SINS for Opéra Bastille; LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN Liège; the French version of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR for Opéra de Lyon with further performances at the Châtelet; and DON GIOVANNI in Toulon. He will appear in THE RAKE'S PROGRESS in Bordeaux, Rouen and Avignon; IL TURCO IN ITALIA in Geneva; LES INDES GALANTES at the Bastille; ALCESTE and LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN in Bruxelles; and LA CENERENTOLA and DON GIOVANNI in Liège and Bordeaux.
